The son of former Major League all-star and Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, he is a 2005 graduate of Memorial High School and an eighth-round (254th overall) selection of his hometown Houston Astros in the 2005 Major League Baseball draft. Ahrens is a 2007 graduate of Memorial High School and was named a first-team high school all-American left fielder as a senior (2007). He was a first-round draft pick (16th overall) of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft.
