APAHA fundraiser features 'Dancing with the Stars' theme

Local celebrities boogied with professional dancers on May 13 at the annual gala of the Asian/Pacific American Heritage Association, which featured a "Dancing with the Stars" theme.

The event, emceed by ABC 13 anchors Miya Shey and Andy Cerota, was sold out with 350 guests. Celeb dancers Mandy Kao, Randy Sim, Tammy Gee Su and Viet Hoang danced with professional dancers Martin Pelaez, Rebecca Avila, April Kunkel and Stefan Golubovic.

APAHA also presented several awards and scholarships at the gala. Judy Wong received the George H.W. Bush Achievement Award for her championship-winning career as a professional angler. Rathna Kumar received a lifetime achievement award from APAHA for her work as a dancer and for founding the ANJALI Center for Performing Arts, the first Indian dance school in Texas when it opened in 1975.
