Spring Woods students run carnival for summer internship
published Jul. 8, 2011
Memorial Assistance Ministries recently organized a summer internship program, teaching Spring Woods Middle School students the virtues of commitment, responsibility and teamwork.
The faith-based organization hired six students as interns to work on its free summer carnival.
The event, which took place on June 24, offered the young interns the chance to participate in all aspects of carnival organizing, including booth design and booth operation. The students worked about 25 hours a week with mentors to plan obstacle courses, face-painting stations, refreshments and a soda ring toss, among other things.
One summer intern, Melvin, was in charge of the face-painting booth. He said he enjoyed his job of painting visitors' faces with flowers, according to the press release. Over 50 children attended the carnival.
