Regis School assists local charities with annual 'Fall Social Awareness Service Day'
published Nov. 23, 2011
Students of The Regis School of the Sacred Heart recently held their annual "Fall Social Awareness Service Day."
The school's Thanksgiving tradition involves the school community spending the entire school day engaged in age-appropriate service projects to benefit Houston’s homeless and hungry served by various local charities.
Projects included a school-wide food drive to benefit the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
The sixth, fifth and fourth grade students worked to make sandwiches and prepare sack lunches for the Lord of the Streets Outreach Program, Kids Meals and Emergency Aid Coalition.
The Early Childhood Little Brothers worked with their Big Brothers in Middle School to prepare bean soup bags for Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
And the four different service initiatives this year were writing “Welcome Home Messages” for United States Marines, assembling 900 “Backpack Buddy Bags” for the Houston Food Bank, donating gently used stuffed animals to Feed the Children Warehouse, and the preservation of the historic Evergreen Cemetery in partnership with Project RESPECT.
