Activities and amenities help seniors delve into active living at The Forum
Mary Taylor recently embarked on what she calls a new adventure in her life — living in a Five Star Senior Living Community. She is one of the newest residents at The Forum at Memorial Woods, having moved to the community in January 2012. Taylor moved there after a comprehensive search by her daughter and son led the family to choose The Forum at Memorial Woods.
“When I walked up to the door of apartment 813, I knew it was meant to be for me! During my life some of my happiest times were when I lived at an address with 13!” Taylor said. She added, “This apartment was a model, so everything was newly redone before I moved in.” Taylor appreciates the benefits of her new senior living lifestyle. “The amenities are wonderful at the Forum. I would call it luxury living,” she said. Taylor enjoys that she no longer has to cook if she doesn’t want to. “The Forum prepares all meals and even delivers them to your door (for a small fee),” she said. Having only lived in the community a short time, Taylor appreciates the effort the staff makes to encourage friendships among residents. “I have gone to the dining room alone, (but) the hostess always seats you with a group of people (so) you can meet and make new friends. This is such a good idea and one that I appreciate,” Taylor said. “It’s difficult for me to remember names, but thank goodness the residents are friendly (and forgiving).” Another part of her new lifestyle that Taylor finds beneficial is the assistance she receives. She explained, “There is a long list of ‘honey do’ things the staff does for us, and they are sweet as bees performing them. The doorman helps me unload my car and brings the items to my suite, valets park the cars, maintenance staff helps fix anything, and the housekeeping cleans my apartment every week and makes my bed.” With safety checks and an around-the-clock emergency call response system, Taylor is reassured of how safe her environment at The Forum at Memorial Woods is. She noted, “The security staff makes me feel safe with 24-hour surveillance and camera system.” Taylor is already enjoying her new lifestyle. “For those who know me, they will not be surprised to hear I have already been to happy hour, where the wine flows freely and familiar music fills the air by Bill the pianist,” Taylor said. “So far I have not taken advantage of the shopping trips to the Galleria, the malls or grocery stores and so forth. But I have every intention to sign up and attend the symphony (and) theater performances.” She also looks forward to experiencing dining in some of Houston’s most famous restaurants. Taylor is impressed with the wide variety of activities offered at The Forum at Memorial Woods. She explained, “During the week they provide many fun activities. There is bingo, bridge, movies and religious services. I am amazed at the complete program of exercises, including water aerobics, tai chi and strength training, as well as a workout gym.” Taylor summed up her new adventure at The Forum at Memorial Woods as follows: “Under this tall red brick building with a green roof, the Forum contains some of the friendliest and most thoughtful people — residents, employees alike — you could ever find. In my galaxy, this five star community is the brightest and best star of all stars.”Related Stories
