Active lifestyle at The Forum is perfect fit for twice-blessed couple
Al and June Jenkins, 90 and 86, respectively, feel doubly blessed to be pursuing their vibrant and independent second lives at The Forum at Memorial Woods.
Each was happily married to another, raised families and led faithful and active lives. The couples were friendly, socializing and serving in the same church over the course of 60 years. Their families had been together across three generations, and their children grew up together. With a strong connection through faith and a lifelong friendship, Al and June Jenkins fell in love and married after they lost their spouses.
After marrying and returning to Houston, the Jenkinses stayed active, especially at church, but understood that, at their ages, they would eventually need support to remain independent.
“We are active and still drive, but knew that would change in the future,” June Jenkins said. “We wanted to make the decision ourselves about our future while it was still ours to make.”
Their decision was to move to The Forum, one of Houston’s premier retirement and senior living communities.
“It has been just great,” June Jenkins said.
As Forum residents, Al and June Jenkins are still active in their church and enjoy new friendships with other residents who share interests, including faith and travel.
June Jenkins notes that they particularly like scheduling dinner with friends at The Forum, allowing them to socialize over a good meal right on site.
June Jenkins also appreciates The Forum’s staff, whom she describes as gracious and fun.
“They are as helpful as can be,” she said. “I love having staff meet my car at the door and take parcels up to our apartment.
“We have had a blast and with the help of The Forum, we will continue to lead full and joyous lives.”
