Memorial charity gives thanks, seeks donations
While the West Houston Assistance Ministries has been impressed with the generosity it has seen in this economic climate--there has been a 40 percent increase of those in need of assistanc--it is asking for more help.
The organization is holding its annual WHAM Adopt-A-Family, Holiday Toy Drive and Holiday Food Drive programs this month and is looking for businesses or individuals to host food drives, toy drives or just volunteer some time.
Donations of funds, new toys and non-perishable food items are now being collected until Dec. 14 at the WHAM offices, 10501 Meadowglen Lane.
The WHAM food pantry is in great need of mashed potatoes, dressing mix, gravy, chicken broth, canned vegetables, fruit and yams. Gift cards in the amount of $10 from Kroger, HEB or Randalls are also needed to assist with the purchases of ham or turkey.
Over Thanksgiving, WHAM provided meals to over 130 families and anticipates that Christmas meal needs will bring 100 more families.
To coordinate a holiday food drive, please contact Cytinya Bowers at 832-553-1675.
