New park at Cedar Brook Elementary recognized by mayor, council member
The Houston SPARK Program recently opened a new neighborhood park at Cedar Brook Elementary in Spring.
The park is fully equipped with a refurbished outdoor classroom, new swings, student-tiled entryway, and new whale and ship play equipment. Local artists Hannah LaPointe and Charissa Jacobs created the artwork featured throughout the park.
At the commemoration celebration, Principal Jeff Post and Cedar Brook Elementary were presented with a certificate of appreciation, acknowledging their efforts in expanding the school to the neighborhood community. The new park is the 15th SPARK Park in the school district.
The SPARK Program partners with individual schools to renovate its existing playground area into a neighborhood park. The program combines the resources of the Department of Housing and Community Development, seven local school districts, Harris County, PTA/PTO groups and concerned citizens. Since 1983, the SPARK Program has created over 180 parks in the Houston area.
