Company based in Memorial area receives patent for de-icing method
A Memorial company received a U.S. patent last week for a system for preventing certain tools used in oil and gas operations from malfunctioning from freezing.
In the process of building and maintaining oil and gas wells, many companies use a variety of pneumatic tools. When these tools draw in cold air and moisture, such as during the night or in inclement weather, they run the risk of freezing. The new patent describes a way of introducing a de-icing fluid to pneumatic lines to prevent this from occurring.
Skyhawk Chemicals Inc., based at 701 N. Post Oak Road #540 in Houston, is listed as the owner of the patent. It names Stephen Glenn Shaw of Longview, Texas, as the system's inventor. The patent's official number is 7,874,381 and it was originally filed on Aug. 29, 2008.
Skyhawk makes a variety of industrial chemicals. Its customers include ExxonMobil, Rohm & Haas, Cabot, Honeywell and GE Betz.
