Memorial-based company earns patent for adding recycling to industrial process
A company based in the Memorial area has received a U.S. patent in recognition of an invention intended to make an industrial process more efficient.
The patent concerns an improvement to fluidized bed reactors, such as the kind that are used to turn coal into fuel or a synthesis gas. The inventor describes a way of using a recycling system to re-introduce discarded fine solid materials into the system, increasing the amount of material that can be processed.
According to the patent, the sole inventor of the device is Gouhai Liu of Birmingham, Alabama. The patent was originally filed on April 29, 2008, and was awarded on Feb. 1 of this year. Its official number is 7,879,294. Sythesis Energy Systems Inc. owns the patent.
The main offices of Synthesis are located at Three Riverway, Suite 300, in Houston. The company specializes in using technology to capture the greatest value from coal, particularly low-quality feed stocks.
