Memorial HS grad leads Dunedin past Lakeland

Memorial High School graduate Kevin Ahrens went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored as the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 5-0, Wednesday.

On the season, Ahrens, a third baseman, is batting .349 with 29 RBIs and seven home runs.

Ahrens is a 2007 graduate of Memorial High School and was named a first-team high school all-American left fielder as a senior (2007). He was a first-round draft pick (16th overall) of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft.

He was named the Blue Jays third-best prospect in 2008 and the sixth best in 2009, both by Baseball America. Through 2010, he was a career .239 hitter with 21 home runs and 142 RBIs. Ahrens was born April 26, 1989, in Houston.
