Westside HS grad Ben Theriot drills Tulsa
Westside High School graduate Ben Theriot went 2-for-4 with a double to help the Northwest Arkansas Naturals take down the Tulsa Drillers, 3-1, Thursday.
A 2006 graduate of Westside High School, Theriot played three seasons (2007 to 2009) at Texas State. He batted .295 with one home run and 14 RBIs for the Bobcats as a freshman, 2007, before hitting .339 with three home runs while driving in 45 runs as a sophomore, 2008. In 2009, Theriot batted .341 with six home runs and 36 RBIs as a senior.
He was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round (272nd overall) of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft. He quickly advanced through the Royals' system beginning 2010 at Burlington of the Midwest League (A) before advancing to High-A at Wilimington of the Carolina League and ending the year at Double-A with NW Arkansas of the Texas League. Theriot posted a combined batting average of .294 with 17 doubles and 31 RBIs. He was born Dec. 8, 1987, in Houston.
