John Paul II Catholic School students participate in science fair
John Paul II Catholic School 6th graders Javier Castro, Ellie Hermann, George Kopf and Ben Garvis pose with their winning science projects.
John Paul II Catholic School held its 3rd Annual Science fair on Jan. 26.
The fair showcased projects by 6th graders that were judged by engineers, former teachers, a doctor and two alumni of John Paul II.
First place went to Ellie Hermann, who studied tsunamis in order to learn how water depth affected the size and speed of waves.
Second place was awarded to Javier Castro, who tested cell phone radiation. Ben Garvis placed third with his experiment on fish memory, and fourth place went to George Kopf who tested the fastest way to cool soda.
Awards were also presented for the most creative project ideas to Teresa La, who studied ant repellants, and Maeve Sebold, with a presentation on The Stroop Effect. Keegan O’Connor and Josie Boynton won awards for the best tri-fold displays.
