Latinos in Social Media opens new chapter in Houston

Latinos In Social Media has announced the inauguration of a new chapter in the greater Houston region.

LATISM is the largest organization of social media professionals of Hispanic origin. The new chapter will be dedicated to empowering local Hispanics through social media and will work to create opportunities to network and learn at the local level.

The National LATISM Conference will also be held in Houston in October.

“We are proud to welcome Houston into the LATISM national network and are very excited to host our national conference in Houston this year, in Texas for the very first time,” Ana Roca-Castro, founder, said in a press release.

The chapter will host its first free Social Media Tweet-Up from 8-10 a.m. March 1 at 1300 Post Oak Blvd. The mixer and panel discussion will focus on the power of social media and will feature local speakers such as Joey Guerra, pop music critic for the Houston Chronicle; Vanessa Astros, vice president and brand ambassador for Fleishman-Hillard; and Sara Patterson, founder and editor of MommaFindings.com.

“With Harris County now being overwhelmingly Hispanic and our demographic as Latinos being among the most active in social media, it only made sense to introduce a new LATISM chapter to the local region,” Juan Alanis, director of the LATISM Houston chapter, said in the press release. “Houston is such a diverse and dynamic city, but, until now, we did not have a place to unite our efforts online. The LATISM Houston chapter is just that.”
