Rice outfielder Jeremy Rathjen had a hit and an RBI in a 4-2 road loss to Southern Mississippi on Saturday, May 26.

A 2008 graduate of Memorial High School, Rathjen excelled on the baseball diamond and in the classroom while playing for coach Jeremy York. As a senior during 2007-2008, he led the Mustangs to a 28-6 record that culminated in a district title and a trip to the regional quarterfinals in the state tournament.

Rathjen earned 5A baseball all-state academic team honors and was a two-time selection to the all-District 19-5A team, as well as playing varsity football for two seasons and earning all-district recognition as a wide receiver.

Rathjen graduated from Memorial with a 6.517 GPA on a 6.0 scale and was class valedictorian for 2008. The 22-year-old Houston native is the son of Craig Rathjen and Jan Miller and a member of the Brown College at Rice.
