Spring Branch Education Foundation thanks community

The Spring Branch Education Foundation has expressed appreciation to the Spring Branch Independent School District for its support during the 2011-2012 school year.

SBEF awarded more than $200,000 in grants to SBISD campuses and other district projects and institutions in the last year.

Schools that received grant money include Bendwood Elementary, Cedar Brook Elementary, Cornerstone Academy, Edgewood Elementary, Frostwood Elementary, Hunters Creek Elementary, Landrum Middle, Memorial Drive Elementary, Northbrook Middle, Northbrook High and Pine Shadows Elementary.

Other projects or institutions that received money include the district's council of PTAs (for scholarships), Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum, Scripps Spelling Bee, the SpringBoard mentor program and the Visual Arts Department (for display equipment for the gallery).

In addition, SBEF awarded a record-setting $86,000 in scholarships to area students.

SBEF's Fund for the Future endowment, created to provide the foundation with renewable income, is more than three quarters of the way to its goal of $1 million.

Upcoming fundraisers for the foundation include the Fall Classics golf tournament taking place Sunday, Oct. 28 and the SBEF Style Show and Luncheon set for Nov. 16.
