Memorial High School coach receives induction to hall of honor

Memorial High School athletic director and head football coach Gary Koch has been inducted into the Ronnie Bell Hall of Honor by the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association.

Other district coaches to earn the honor include Les Koenning, Wayne Hooks, Oscar Cripps, Mike Sciba and Kevin O'Keefe.

A coach for 35 years, Koch led Memorial High to two state championship games, in 1978 and 1987.

Also during his tenure, the Mustangs won five district championships and reached the state semifinals in 2010.

Koch also has been selected as district coach of the year four times and was a three-time finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club area coach of the year.
