Executive chef David Denis of Memorial's Le Mistral Restaurant lifts his trophy as the 2012 winner of Wine and Food Week's Just Desserts competition.
Memorial's Le Mistral Restaurant was named the 2012 Just Desserts award winner at Wine and Food Week, held June 4-10.
Le Mistral Restaurant's executive chef David Denis is a two-time savory division winner at the festival, and this was his first time competing in the desserts division. As the winner, he received a $1,000 prize.
Other winners included executive chef David Guerrero of Samba Grill, who took top honors as the 2012 Waterford Crystal Chef of Chefs; second place in the savory competition was claimed by executive chef Kristofer Jakob of Kris Bistro and Wine Lounge; and third place went to Royal chef Darren McGrady.
Houston's Wine and Food Week is produced by Food and Vine Time Productions and highlights good food, wine and green living. Proceeds benefited the Signature Series literacy efforts of The John Cooper School and Swing for a Cure. The eighth annual event drew a crowd of thousands for wine education classes, demonstrations, author events and more.
