Memorial HS grad helps Dunedin Blue Jays beat Tampa Yankees
Former Memorial High School star Kevin Ahrens drove in a run with a single and scored once in four at-bats for the Dunedin Blue Jays in a 10-6 victory over the Tampa Yankees in a Class-A Florida State League game Tuesday, July 3.
Ahrens, a third baseman, is batting .247 with four home runs, 34 RBI and 37 runs scored over 247 at-bats this season. He's also doubled nine times, has a triple and walked 42 times.
Ahrens was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round (16th overall) of the 2007 amateur Draft. He was named Toronto's third-best prospect by Baseball America in 2008 and the sixth-best in 2009. In parts of six years in the minors, mostly at Class A, Ahrens is a career .240 hitter with 38 home runs and 230 RBIs.
Ahrens was born April 26, 1989, in Houston.
