Torrential rains in the Houston area may affect area wildlife, according to a press release from the Wildlife Center of Texas.

The release advised residents who discover hurt or orphaned wild animals to keep them in a warm, dark, quiet place in a box lined with soft towels until they can be brought to the Wildlife Center. Residents should not try to feed or offer water to wildlife, the release noted.

The center is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m and is located at 7007 Old Katy Road, Houston.

The center is currently accepting dry dog and cat food to feed to hurt and orphaned wild animals while they are rehabilitated and prepared to be re-released into the wild.

For more information, visit the center's website at www.wildlifecenteroftexas.org or call 713-861-9453.
