Houston Police Department investigating death of man after fire

The Houston Police Department is investigating the death of a man after a fire on Monday, July 16 at 9710 Telephone Road, according to a report released by the Houston Police Department.

According to the report, on Monday, July 16 at approximately 3:50 a.m., a man’s body was found by firefighters extinguishing a fire at 9710 Telephone Road, and Houston Police are currently awaiting autopsy results.

The identity of the victim in the fire is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to the report.

"Houston Fire Department firefighters responded to a fire at the above address and found a storage container that had been modified for use as a residence on fire," a report by HPD Homicide Division Sgt. W. Bush and Officer C. Sturdivant stated.

The victim was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report by Bush and Sturdivant, and HPD Homicide and HFD Arson investigators were called to the scene to investigate the incident.

At this time, the investigation is pending the victim's cause of death, according to the report.
