Host a shoe drive in August to help benefit children worldwide
Buckner International invites Houston residents to collect new shoes in August to help vulnerable children worldwide.
Those interested in hosting a shoe drive may register at buckner.org/shoes. Donated shoes and socks will be collected at South Main Baptist Church, located at 4100 Main St., during a special event from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 2.
Houston-based FishFlops will give 10,000 pairs of shoes to jump start the drive and encourage participation. Fourteen-year-old Madison Robinson created the organization.
According to the "State of the World's Children" as reported by UNICEF, there are 148 million orphans worldwide, and one of the most immediate needs is shoes. Many children receive only one pair of shoes to last the entire year, while others don't have any shoes.
