Cypress Creek FACE Announces September Events

Cypress Creek FACE is hosting a number of events in September.

"Thank you for supporting the arts in our community," Cypress Creek FACE's Nanci Decker said.

Cypress Creek FACE's September events begin with "Dons & Divas West Side Story," which will take place at 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at The Centrum, located at 6823 Cypresswood Drive in Spring. Everyone knows "West Side Story" is an American musical with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and conception and choreography by Jerome Robbins. It was inspired by William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." Now imagine four singers, a narrator and wonderful music telling the story with words and song. Hear the Sharks and the Jets rivalry. Learn how Tony, one of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. Find out what happens when everyone learns of their love. Don't miss this wonderful performance of an American classic. Tickets are $6 to $12.

At 7 p.m. Sept. 28, the Best of the Northwest Gala 2012, Moonlight & Jazz, honoring Peggy Jo and Dr. Elbert Coker will take place at Champions Golf Club. All proceeds support Cypress Creek FACE's mission to provide cultural arts programming and educational opportunities for the community. The evening will feature a delicious dinner by Champions, live entertainment inside and outside, live and silent auctions, and a raffle. Individual tickets are $175. Tables are available for $1,750, $3,000 and $5,000.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 29 at The Centrum. The band takes its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The band has traveled worldwide, spreading its mission of nurturing and perpetuating the art form of New Orleans jazz. Whether performing at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center, for British Royalty or the King of Thailand, this music embodies a joyful, timeless spirit. Tickets are $35 to 65.
