Second Baptist School alumnus publishes book
Nathan Barber, a 1994 graduate of William Carey University and the head of upper school at Second Baptist School in Houston, published his 13th book called "Resurrecting Lazarus, Texas."
According to a recent press release, the book is about a young coach who takes over a struggling high school girls basketball team in a West Texas town that only cares about football. Halfway through the season, tragedy strikes and leaves the team and community struggling to bring life back to the town.
Barber says the story is about more than just sports.
"While the story centers on a high school basketball team struggling to make it in a community dominated by the status quo and good old boys, the novel is so much more than a sports story," Barber said in the release. "As the title suggests, "Resurrecting Lazarus, Texas," stands as a redemption story that should have appeal for both adults and young adults, as the characters, both teen and adult, wrestle with many of the same issues, only from different perspectives."
Barber said that many of the book's story elements are based on his own experiences.
Barber is a former teacher and basketball coach.
"Resurrecting Lazarus, Texas" is available in paperback and on the Kindle.
