Houston Christian alum Lollis helps Grizzlies beat Zephyrs 9-2, Aug. 10
Former Houston Christian High School star Ryan Lollis went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and a run scored in the Fresno Grizzlies 9-2 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs in a Triple-A Pacific Coast League game Friday, Aug. 10, in New Orleans.
While batting seventh in the order and playing center field, Lollis singled with two outs in the second inning but was stranded on base when catcher Eli Whiteside struck out. Lollis reached on a throwing error by the pitcher and scored in the fourth on Justin Christian's two-out single to center. He flied out to left in the sixth before singling to center in the seventh. Lollis flew out to left in the ninth in his final at-bat of the evening.
With the pair of hits, Lollis, an outfielder, is batting .330 with two home runs, 15 runs batted in and 22 runs scored in 27 games at the Triple-A level. He hit .296 with five HRs, 39 RBI and 49 runs scored for the San Jose Giants of the California League (High-A level) before being promoted July 10.
Lollis was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of high school in the 20th round of the 2005 amateur draft but didn't sign, electing to attend the University of Missouri where he hit .309 with nine HRs and 165 RBI in 217 games over four years. Lollis was later selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 37th round (1,107th selection) of the 2009 draft.
