Spring Woods varsity football schedule set

Spring Woods High School has released its varsity football schedule for the upcoming season.

With a total of five wins over the past five seasons, a downgrade in class and a new head coach, things can only get better for the Tigers.

The new season kicks off with a pair of non-division home games against Pasadena High School at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, and New Caney High School - the Tigers' only victim in 2011 - at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Tully Stadium.

Non-district play concludes with a road contest at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Baytown Lee High School's Stallworth Stadium.

After an open date the weekend of Sept. 21, play in the new District 22 commences for the Tigers, with a home game against Houston Stratford High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.

As the calendar flips to October, Spring Woods will travel to Hall Stadium in Missouri City to face Fort Bend Willowridge at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. The following week, the Tigers will visit Tomball Memorial for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday, Oct. 12.

The Tomball High School Cougars cruise into Tully Stadium for a Week 8 district contest at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.

The Tigers take their second and final trip to Hall Stadium Thursday, Oct. 25, to battle Fort Bend Marshall High School at 7 p.m. before returning home for Senior Night against Fort Bend Ridge Point at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.

District and regular-season play comes to a close when Spring Woods meets Houston Northbrook at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Tully Stadium. The Raiders had dropped the previous seven games in a row to the Tigers before finally emerging victorious last season, 34-32.

Should the Tigers' nucleus of athletic returning starters develop and qualify Spring Woods for postseason play, the first round of the 4A Region III state playoffs would begin the weekend of Nov. 16.

Spring Woods plays its home games on artificial turf at the 15,000-seat Tully Stadium, located at 1050 Dairy Ashford St., in Houston.
