Literacy Advance Houston hosts Scrabble and the City Sept. 21
Participants play Scrabble at last year's Scrabble and the City fundraiser hosted by Literary Advance Houston.
Literacy Advance Houston's annual fundraiser Scrabble and the City is set for 7-10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Saint Arnold Brewing Company.
This year's Scrabble and the City theme is Americana. Prizes will be awarded to the best team name and best team costumes. The two rounds of Scrabble will be played with a secret game-changer that will be announced that evening. The winner will take home the Mr. T trophy.
Food for the event will be catered by Fleming Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar River Oaks, Nothing Bundt Cakes Houston Galleria/Uptown and Whole Foods Wilcrest. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Sounds and Sean Pendergast of Yahoo! Sports Radio 1560.
Raffles for road trips, golf, sports tickets and more also are planned.
Literacy Advance Houston was founded 48 years ago. The organization is staffed by volunteers and provided free literacy classes to more than 3,000 individuals in 2011, according to a press release.
