Athletic club offers several adult swim courses
The Memorial Athletic Club and Aquatic Center is offering swim courses for adults.
The classes are part of the 23rd season of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program, and all classes are open to club members and nonmembers.
The adult beginner or novice program is for ages 17 and older, providing an introduction to the water. No previous swimming experience is necessary to join. The class has a maximum of two participants at a time.
The adult intermediate class is also for ages 17 and older and works with swimmers to become more comfortable in the water. Swimmers will submerge their bodies and faces underwater, float on their fronts and backs, and swim short distances in the pool. The class has a maximum of four participants at a time.
Monday and Wednesday sessions will be held from Sept. 3-26. Tuesday and Thursday classes will be held from Sept. 4-27. Classes will also be available Saturdays from Sept. 8-29. A similar schedule will be used for October, November and December sessions.
There are no makeup classes for either program, but Fridays should be left open in case of pool closings for maintenance, weather or instructor illness.
Weekday sessions cost $155 for members and $190 for nonmembers, and Saturday sessions cost $105 for members and $130 for nonmembers. Registration can be completed online at fitmacaquatics.com/aquatic_lts.htm.
Private lessons can also be scheduled by calling the swim office at 281-759-1748.
The Memorial Athletic Club and Aquatic Center is located at 14690 Memorial Drive in Houston.
