Strake Jesuit faculty issues iPads at orientation
Faculty members at Strake Jesuit were issued iPads during orientation. The iPads are part of the school's efforts to be up to date on current trends in technology and will allow the school to evaluate the effectiveness of tablets in the classroom. "While we may at some point provide these to students as well, we want to approach that decision with optimistic prudence," Trip Norkus, academic assistant principal, said in a press release. "That decision, which carries a significant investment of time and resources, requires us to do proper investigation, training of faculty and planning." Content delivery and textbooks are a couple of the potential applications the school will explore with the iPads. Additionally, it hopes the devices will allow faculty to research, communicate, read and organize more effectively and without being constrained by place or time. During the school year, faculty members will take part in training and professional development. Administrators expect the changes will happen slowly, but gradually.
