Westside football to play Port Arthur Memorial
The Houston Westside High School football team will head out on the road this week to take on Port Arthur Memorial on Friday, Sept. 14 in a 7 p.m. game at Memorial Stadium.
The Wolves (1-1) lost 41-35 in overtime to Clements on Sept. 8. Michael Haywood threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Hartzog with 7:27 to go in the fourth quarter to tie the game and force OT. Westside had gone into halftime with a 28-14 advantage.
Westside rolled up 435 yards of offense and Haywood completed 14 of his 22 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns. Hartzog caught two touchdown passes. Cameron Shepherd caught a scoring strike as well.
Port Arthur is 2-0 after knocking off Beaumont Ozen 37-15 on Sept. 8. The Titans scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to seal the deal. They finished with 299 yards. Matthew Romar rushed for 47 yards and three touchdowns.
Westside will play at Kempner on Friday, Sept. 21 and will play at Chavez on Friday, Sept. 28. The Wolves will play at Westbury on Friday, Oct. 5.
Port Arthur Memorial will play at Bellaire on Friday, Sept. 21 and will play at Deer Park on Friday, Sept. 28.
All games will begin at 7 p.m.
