Comerica Bank, Steed Society honor Houston businesswomen
Comerica Bank and The Steed Society will hold the seventh annual Women of Houston Awards on Friday, Oct. 5.
The awards ceremony honors area women who have made contributions to the local community. This year, 25 business and community leaders will be recognized.
Honorees will also participate in The Steed Society's Junior Youth Initiative Mentoring Program, in which 25 junior and senior girls from Jack Yates High School attend workshops on leadership, financial literacy and college planning.
This year's award recipients are Nory Angel, executive director and CEO of SER-Jobs for Progress; Rebecca Briscoe, national entertainment reporter for "Houston Styles Magazine"; Heather Brown of Heather Brown Orthodontics; Tawana Walter-Cadien, candidate for United States Congress, District 10; Tammie Lang Campbell, founder and executive director of the Honey Brown Hope Foundation; Alice Chen, financial advisor and functional manager for MetLife Financial and community liaison for Congressmen Al Green; Tamyra Y. Comeaux, owner of Natural Women's Care and Vita-Doc; Beverly Denver, editor and publisher of "Houston Woman Magazine"; Michelle L. Edwards, founder and managing director of PICC Health Institute; Hashmat Effendi, founder and executive director of House of Charity; Mena Freeman of New York Life & Financial Services; Gayla Gardner, co-founder of Twelve Days of Christmas, Inc.; Priscilla T. Graham, community executive director for Houston Texans YMCA of Greater Houston; Charleta Guillory, associate professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and director of Level II nurseries and the neonatal-perinatal public health program at Texas Children's Hospital; Gloria D. Holloway, owner and operator of K.N.G. Enterprises, Inc.; Stacy Johnson, CEO, artistic director and executive producer at Visual Arts Production; Martha Kennerson, VP of marketing at Amerigroup and author of "Choices"; Shelena C. Lalji, author, speaker and women's health advocate and founder and medical director of Dr. Shel Wellness and Medical Spa; Annella G. Metoyer, president of Capital One in Houston; Vicky Bich Ngoc Nguyen, CEO of Vietnamese American Network Television, VANTV Houston Ch.55.2; Sonya Myles Sloan, orthopedic surgeon and founder/executive director of ME & WE Inc.; Ka-Ron Y. Wade, owner of Cosmetic Dental Texas; Darian Ward Nichols, public information officer of Houston Airports; Kimberly Jones Williams, chief administration officer of Capital Programs at Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County; Phyllis Williams, owner of Birdiewear; and Lydia Evans, founder and product designer of La Bella Dolce Body Care.
The award ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. at The Houstonian, 111 N. Post Oak Lane. Tickets to the event are $200.
