Memorial athletes in action: College volleyball
Two college volleyball players with Memorial high school ties have scheduled action this weekend:
Lauren Williams, Stanford University
High school: Stratford High School
This week: Sunday, Nov. 4, at University of Oregon
About Williams: Lauren Elaine Williams was born on Oct. 10, 1988. She is the daughter of Craig and Shirley. Williams was a 2007 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection and earned all-state honors as a senior at Stratford High in Houston, Texas under coach Becky Palermo. She was named to the Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Area first team in her senior season as well as being named as the best blocker and also earned all-district first team honors in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Lauren was named best attacker at the 2007 Kingwood Tournament and played club volleyball for Texas Elite and Texas Tornados under coach and four-time Olympian Tara Cross-Battle.
Lindsay Daniel, Rice University
Position: Outside hitter and middle blocker
High school: Stratford High School
This week: Sunday, Nov. 4, versus University of Central Florida
About Daniel: Daniel, a junior outside hitter and middle blocker for Rice University, graduated from Stratford High School in 2010. The Houston native was a three-year letter winner for coach Becky Palermo and was a two-time all-district player. She is the daughter of Matt and Pam Daniel.
