Memorial athletes in action: College football

The following college football players, all with Memorial high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

B.J. Catalon, Texas Christian University
High school: Westside High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, vs. Oklahoma
About Catalon: Catalon is a 2012 graduate of Westside High School. He was a three-star recruit as rated by Rivals.com and was named the seventh best overall back in the country in the class of 2012 as well as the top all-purpose back in the Lone Star State. As a senior (2011-12) Catalon rushed for 2269 yards and 32 touchdowns for an average of 12.2 yards per carry. He also caught seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Catalon was a first-team all-greater Houston and all-state selection. He chose to play football at Texas Christian University over offers from Baylor Missouri and Texas Tech.

Alonzo Adams, Texas Christian University
Position: Wide receiver
High school: Westside High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, vs. Oklahoma
About Adams: Adams, a senior wide receiver for TCU, graduated from Westside High School in 2007 and played one season at Tyler Junior College. The advertising and public relations major is a Houston native and the son of Arthur Adams Jr. and Amy Lavine-Adams.

Greg Burks, Texas Christian University
Position: Linebacker
High School: Spring Woods High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, vs. Oklahoma
About Burks: Burks, a redshirt senior linebacker for TCU, graduated from Spring Woods High School in 2008. The arts and sciences major is a Houston native and is the son of Doneen Carmon.

Michael Smith, University of Connecticut
High School: Westside High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, vs. Cincinnati
About Smith: Michael Dale Smith, Jr, born on August 22, 1990, is a pre-kinesiology major. At Westside Michael garnered second-team All-Texas for Class 5A and was a finalist for the Touchdown Club of Houston's Offensive Player of the Year. He was named second-team All-Greater Houston and also made the all-district team. Michael was selected for the 2007 Space City All-Star Game as well as being nominated as a Houston?Chronicle Player to Watch. During his time at Westside as the team captain he had 74 catches as a senior for 1,024 yards with 11 touchdowns.

Terrance Lloyd, Baylor University
Position: Defensive end
High School: Stratford High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 1, vs. Oklahoma State
About Lloyd: Lloyd, a junior defensive end for Baylor University, graduated from Stratford High School in 2009. The general studies major is from Houston and is the son of Kiethan and Kimberley Lloyd.
