Memorial athletes in action: Women's basketball
The following women's basketball players, all with Memorial high school ties, have scheduled action this week:
Erin Luton, Nicholls State University
Position: Forward
High school: Westside High School
This week: Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Arkansas State University
About Luton: Luton is a sophomore forward for Nicholls State University. She is a 2011 graduate of Westside High School in Houston, where she was named all-district as a sophomore, junior and senior. Luton was selected to play in the Greater Area Houston Girls' Basketball All-Star Game, and made all-district academic team. The daughter of John and Julie Luton of Houston, Luton is studying mass communications and broadcast journalism at Nicholls State.
Rachel Cumbo, University of South Alabama
Position: Guard
High school: Westside High School

Wednesday, Dec. 19, at University of Central Florida
Saturday, Dec. 22, versus University of Arkansas-Little Rock
About Cumbo: Cumbo is a redshirt freshman guard for the University of South Alabama. She is a 2011 graduate of Westside High School in Houston, where she was a four-year letter winner under head coach Troy Gillespie. Cumbo was named first-team all-district after averaging 14.7 points per game with five rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.1 steals as a senior. She helped WHS to a second-place finish in its conference with a 26-11 record and was selected to participate in the Greater Houston Area All-Star Game in the spring of her senior year, where she recorded nine points. The sports marketing major is from Houston and is the daughter of Eddie and Monique Cumbo.
Alexis Hill, San Jose State University
Position: Guard
High School: Westside High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 22, at California State University-Fullerton
About Hill: Hill is a freshman guard for San Jose State University. She is a 2012 graduate of Westside High School in Houston, where she was a four-year letter winner under coach Troy Gillespie and averaged 13.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, four assists and 3.2 steals per game. Hill was named to the Texas All-Region Three Team as one of the top 80 high school players in Texas. She was also named to the Houston High School All-Star Team as a senior, selected as a first-team All-Houston Independent School District as a junior and senior and earned second-team All-HISD honors as a sophomore. Hill played as an All-Tournament performer at the Spring Branch Independent School District Invitational in 2012. The kinesiology major is from Houston and is the daughter of Marvin Hill and Kellye Thompson.
Sylvana Okde, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Position: Guard
High School: Westbury Christian High School

Saturday, Dec. 22, at Arkansas State University
About Okde: Okde is a freshman guard for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is a 2012 graduate of Westbury Christian High School in Houston, where she was named first team All-District in her senior, junior and sophomore seasons. Okde was selected as the district MVP as a senior, and named second team All-District in her freshman year. Okde is from Houston and is the daughter of Tony and Ann Okde.
