Three Memorial Drive Presbyterian Troop 642 scouts earn eagle rank
Three high school seniors were recently promoted to the eagle rank at a special event in the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Troop 642 scout house in Memorial.
Achieving scouting's highest honor were Ben Butler and Timothy Davis, of Memorial High School, and Raleigh Davis, of Strake Jesuit College Prep School, according to a press release.
To reach the rank of Eagle Scout, the three designed, planned and supervised the implementation of a community service project.
Butler completed his project at Family Point Resources, a nonprofit agency in the West Houston Community Center, where families learn skills to help break the cycle of poverty. He constructed and installed a custom storage cabinet, countertop and created a space for teaching arts, crafts and cooking,.
Timothy Davis completed his project at Yellowstone Academy, a private school for underprivileged children. He created a prayer garden to provide a retreat and resting space for students, staff and visitors. He laid pavers, installed benches and planted shrubs and flowers at the site.
Raleigh Davis constructed an organic vegetable garden and irrigation system at Small Steps Nurturing Center, a nonprofit organization that provides early childhood education programs for at-risk children. Davis completed this project to help children learn about the importance of a healthy diet and to provide vegetables for children's lunches at the center.
Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church is at 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston.
