Great cardinal items available at Just for the Birds
With their bright red plumage, cardinals are one of the most attractive birds in Northern America. They don't migrate, and they do not molt into a duller color at this time of the year (the adults do molt—or replace their feathers in mid-August to early-September), hence they keep their beautiful appearance throughout most of the year. Just for the Birds, a store in Old Town Spring dedicated to all things avian, has great items related to these beautiful creatures.
"The northern cardinal is one of the most beautiful of all our birds," said Kathy Coward, bird enthusiast and owner of Just for the Birds. "Seven states in the Eastern U.S. count the northern cardinal as their state bird."
Said to mate for life, cardinals like to build their cup-shaped nests out of twigs, bark strips and leaves in thick foliage, where the female can lay from two to five buff white-colored eggs, which one can recognize by their distinct dark marks. Both male and female cardinals share in the feeding of the young when the eggs hatch. The birds are, therefore, attracted to places where they can nest as well as find food, water and shelter.
Just for the Birds has just the items to entice these beautiful birds to come, regularly visit one's yard and fill the air with beautiful songs. The store offers products such as bird baths, where cardinals can drink and bathe, and feeders, where one can provide cardinals with their favorite sunflower seeds, or other seeds such as safflower, cracked corn or mixed seed. The store also has great home décor to liven up any room, such as cardinal statues, flags, mats, mugs and more. And for those who want to learn more, Just for the Birds has books on these interesting birds.
"Cardinals are symbols at this time of year because of their beauty and cheerfulness," Coward said. "I hope the sights and sounds of cardinals light up your life during the holidays and all year long."
