Memorial athletes in action: Women's basketball
These women's basketball players, all with Memorial high school ties, have scheduled action this weekend:
Jamiyla DeBoise, San Jose State University
Position: Forward
High school: Westside High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 22, at California State University, Fullerton
About DeBoise: DeBoise is a freshman forward for San Jose State University. She is a 2012 graduate of Westside High School in Houston, where she won first-team All-Houston Independent School District (HISD) honors and was selected as an All-Tournament performer at the Spring Branch Independent School District Invitational. During her senior year, DeBoise was a member of the High School All-Star Team of Greater Houston as well as the Greater Houston Area Girls Basketball Association All-Star Team. She earned second-team All-HISD as a junior and honorable mention All-HISD as a sophomore, and made District 20-5A All-Star by the Houston Chronicle her senior year. DeBoise is the daughter of Terry and Jacie DeBoise.
Alexis Hill, San Jose State University
Position: Guard
High school: Westside High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 22, at California State University, Fullerton
About Hill: Hill is a freshman guard for San Jose State University. She is a 2012 graduate of Westside High School in Houston where she was a four-year letter winner under coach Troy Gillespie averaging averaged 13.9 points 4.5 rebounds four assists and 3.2 steals per game. Hill was named to the Texas All-Region Three Team as one of the top 80 high school players in Texas. She was also named to the Houston High School All-Star Team as a senior selected as a first-team All-Houston Independent School District (HISD) as a junior and senior and earned second-team All-HISD honors as a sophomore. Hill played as an All-Tournament performer at the Spring Branch Independent School District Invitational in 2012. The kinesiology major is from Houston and is the daughter of Marvin Hill and Kellye Thompson.
Rachel Cumbo, University of South Alabama
Position: Guard
High School: Westside High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 22, versus University of Arkansas, Little Rock
About Cumbo: Cumbo is a redshirt freshman guard for University of South Alabama. She is a 2011 graduate of Westside High School in Houston where she was a four-year letter winner under head coach Troy Gillespie. Cumbo was named first-team all-district after averaging 14.7 points per game with five rebounds 2.5 assists and 3.1 steals as a senior. She helped WHS to a second-place finish in its conference with a 26-11 record and was selected to participate in the Greater Houston Area All-Star Game in the spring of her senior year where she recorded nine points. The sports marketing major is from Houston and is the daughter of Eddie and Monique Cumbo.
Amber Orrange, Stanford University
Position: Guard
High School: Westbury Christian High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 22, at Tennessee
About Orrange: Amber Orrange is a sophomore guard for Stanford University. She is a 2011 graduate of Westbury Christian High School in Houston where she was named to the Parade High School All-America Team in 2011. Orrange was also a 2011 MaxPreps All-American, 2011 McDonald's High School All-American, 2011 MaxPreps All-American. She was also named an All-Greater Houston Player of the Year and to the All-Greater Houston First Team by the Houston Chronicle in 2011. Orrange is from Houston and is the daughter of James and Elexa Orrange.
Sylvana Okde, University of Louisiana
Position: Guard
High School: Westbury Christian High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 22, at Arkansas State University
About Okde: Okde is a freshman guard for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.She is a 2012 graduate of Westbury Christian High School in Houston where she was named first team All-District in her senior, junior and sophomore seasons. Okde was selected as the district MVP as a senior, and named second team All-District in her freshman year. Okde is from Houston and is the daughter of Tony and Ann Okde.
