Durotech General Contractors cited by Associated General Contractors of America

The Transportation Center is on the central campus of San Jacinto College in Pasadena.

The Houston Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America has named Durotech General Contractors for excellence in construction.   The award came for the company's construction of the new transportation center at the San Jacinto College central campus, according to a press release.   Durotech was given the APEX award for project management in education, which honors excellence in construction of facilities that demonstrate contributions to the community, skill, integrity and responsibility.   "A big feature of the transportation center is the light transmission, which saves energy," said Bryan Jones, associate vice chancellor of facilities and construction at San Jacinto College, in the release. "Also, everyone involved did a wonderful job in pre-planning and programming the building. All the spaces flow and function exactly as expected."   In making the award, the chapter considered materials managements, use of natural light, infrastructure of the building and how the structure can be repaired.   The center opened in 2011 and was funded by a 2008 bond referendum. The facility has provided training space for the automotive technology program of the school. Morris and Associates were the architects.   The 92,000-square-foot facility houses a 100-seat multi-purpose showroom with video conferencing, an administrative suite, conference room, multimedia classrooms, engine repair laboratories and several other amenities to aid in teaching.   "The modular design of the instructional labs, integrating the faculty office, classroom, support space and the lift bays allows for a great efficiency in the use of space, significant independence of operations and ease of expansion as needed in the future," added James Braswell, dean of administration at San Jacinto College central campus, in the release.   Durotech General Contractors is at 11931 Wickchester Lane, Suite 205, Houston.   The San Jacinto College central campus is at 8060 Spencer Highway, Pasadena.   The Associated General Contractors is at 3625 Dacoma St., Houston   For more information, call 281-998-6150, visit www.sanjac.edu or www.agchouston.org.
