Houston Memorial grad Staff plays in Texas State loss
Houston Memorial High School graduate Matt Staff scored two points as Texas State lost 64-53 to conference rival Denver Thursday, Jan. 3, at Magness Arena in Denver, the Texas State website reported.
The Texas State University senior forward also recorded one rebound for the Bobcats, who are 4-11 on the season and 0-3 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Texas State's next game is 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at New Mexico State University.
Staff played at Memorial High School in 2005-2009 for coach Dave Lay. Both Rivals.com and Scout.com rated him as a two-star recruit at the beginning of 2008-2009. He carried a 3.75 GPA and was ranked in the Top-10 by RCSSports.com for the Houston area - Top-20 in Texas by TexasHoops.com. He is the son of Richard and Victoria.
