Houston Memorial grad Staff helps in Texas State victory
Houston Memorial High School graduate Matt Staff played for Texas State University in its 81-78 win over conference rival Texas at San Antonio Saturday, Jan. 19, at Convocation Center in San Antonio, the school's website reported.
The Texas State senior forward recorded three rebounds, one steal and four blocks for the Bobcats, who improved to 5-14 on the season and 1-6 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Texas State's next game is 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at University of Idaho.
Staff played at Memorial High School in 2005-2009 for coach Dave Lay. Both Rivals.com and Scout.com rated him as a two-star recruit at the beginning of 2008-2009. He carried a 3.75 GPA and was ranked in the Top-10 by RCSSports.com for the Houston area - Top-20 in Texas by TexasHoops.com. He is the son of Richard and Victoria.
