Q: How vital is communication between the real estate agent and client?

A: It is extremely important to have communication in this relationship like you would with a family member. You need to stay in contact keep the client updated and let them know that you are working for them and getting the job done in selling them a house or helping them buy.

I’ve taken upon listings where a client had an agent previously and they weren’t able to communicate effectively. One client had told me that they spoke with a Realtor and never heard anything for the next month. So, I think the pitfalls to not communicating is planting doubt in the client’s mind of whether or not their agent is working in their best interests. You lose that communication and the client loses their confidence and trust in you.

We should have a natural rapport with our clients. Generally, that is how clients choose their agents. They want to feel the sense of being understood and relating on a business and personal level. They want to know what is going on in the market and – as a Realtor – you need to keep them informed as well as educated to what is currently going on in the market. That’s the natural way to keep the communication open.
