Houston Memorial grad Staff plays in Texas State loss
Houston Memorial High School graduate Matt Staff scored 18 points, but his Texas State University lost 73-62 at home to conference rival University of Texas San Antonio on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos, State's website reported.
The senior forward also recorded 13 rebounds and three blocks for the Bobcats, who are 7-19 on the season and 3-11 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Texas State's next game is 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at home against Seattle University.
Staff played at Memorial High School in 2005-2009 for coach Dave Lay. Both Rivals.com and Scout.com rated him as a two-star recruit at the beginning of 2008-2009. He carried a 3.75 GPA and was ranked in the Top-10 by RCSSports.com for the Houston area - Top-20 in Texas by TexasHoops.com. He is the son of Richard and Victoria.
