A: The Houston economy is definitely above average in comparison to other areas in the nation, and this is due in large part to the business friendly environment of Texas and the strength of the oil and gas industry.
Houston as well as the state actually benefitted to some degree after the recent banking collapse and economic downturn. Many companies consolidated or relocated their business and corporate headquarters to Houston and other Texas metropolitan areas.
Texas is considered to have a business friendly environment with relatively affordable housing and a low cost of living. Most statistics show that in recent years Texas realized the greatest increase in population, and North Dakota as having the greatest percentage increase in population.
In both instances, this is due to the health and viability of the oil and natural gas industries.
In addition, proximity to the central business district and the quality of the school district has a major influence on price stability and general increase in residential property values.
