Westside grad Cumbo plays in South Alabama loss

Westside High School graduate Rachel Cumbo contributed a point in University of South Alabama's 69-48 loss to Middle Tennessee State University on Feb. 20 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., South Alabama's website reported.

The freshman guard and the Jaguars are 14-12 on the season and 7-10 in the Sun Belt Conference.

South Alabama's next game is 5:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at home against the University of North Texas.

Cumbo is a redshirt freshman guard for University of South Alabama. She is a 2011 graduate of Westside High School in Houston, where she was a four-year letter winner under head coach Troy Gillespie. Cumbo was named first-team all-district after averaging 14.7 points per game with five rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.1 steals as a senior. She helped WHS to a second-place finish in its conference with a 26-11 record and was selected to participate in the Greater Houston Area All-Star Game in the spring of her senior year, where she recorded nine points. The sports marketing major is from Houston and is the daughter of Eddie and Monique Cumbo.
