Westside grad Cumbo contributes to South Alabama victory

Westside High School graduate Rachel Cumbo played for the University of South Alabama in the team's 65-61 win at home over conference rival University of North Texas on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, South Alabama's website reported.

The freshman guard recorded three rebounds and one steal for the Jaguars, who improved to 15-12 on the season and 8-10 in the Sun Belt Conference.

South Alabama's next game is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Western Kentucky.

Cumbo is a 2011 graduate of Westside High School in Houston where she was a four-year letter winner under head coach Troy Gillespie. Cumbo was named first-team all-district after averaging 14.7 points per game with five rebounds 2.5 assists and 3.1 steals as a senior. She helped WHS to a second-place finish in its conference with a 26-11 record and was selected to participate in the Greater Houston Area All-Star Game in the spring of her senior year where she recorded nine points. The sports marketing major is from Houston and is the daughter of Eddie and Monique Cumbo.
